Special session today. Met Odd future beast Domo Genesis and became a fan of him today. I’ll admit Odd Future hasn’t been my cup of Hip-Hop since inception of the group based on the grungy production, dark lyrics and overall madness… But today made me re-think the judgement of all affiliated Odd Future artists in the group. Domo is working on his debut album, played some of his recent works which were nice.. But the song we made today is special. Very unorthodox arrangement that somewhat fell into our laps as we were working. Cam made a track from scratch in Frooty Loops then we added some auto-tuned upright piano – AWESOME. Domo added some background tracks that I messed around with and put some effects on which set the tone for the rest of the track. After that Domo ripped two verses that he wrote as Cam was making the beat. Knocked those out in 1/2 takes then threw some adlibs.. I kept a lot of random vocals and threw them around in the track – not sure if that’ll make his final album but the mix I took home tonight is a very unique arrangement and it has a great feeling. Cam recorded a series of sections with about 7 harmonies – incredible vocal stacks that padded the track and really brought some unique tracks to play with in the arrangement. Hopefully this one makes the album, it has a very special feeling and I’m extremely happy with the results from our first session today.
