All in one day. Pretty special to watch each one of these artists being creative and writing new songs. Tons of jokes, great spirits all around for the entire session. Starting with Christmas, Asher, Poly and Chuck making a track together. Chuck and Asher left then Elle came in to work on a new song for Christmas and we had a solid second session. Finally Polyester and Christmas made two more songs after I left. Very productive Tuesday, didn’t end up finishing until 2:30am.

What a day.
Started off with Michael Christmas and featured singer Julius for a 3 hour recording session. Knocked out 3 new songs and both guys killed it. Christmas is quickly becoming one of my favorite rappers for his fun but intelligent verses. His beat selection and lyrics will bring you into a good mood at any point in the day and his music videos are a guaranteed pick-me-up. Shot a few pictures and a short video clip that will surface at some point in the near future.
Shortly following the session, Nick Huff from Hard Knock TV came in to film and interview with Royce da 5’9 and the legendary DJ Premier. One of my all time favorite producers, definitely a check off my bucket list.
Another day in the books with Toronto artist/producer Rich Kidd. One of my favorites in hip-hop out of Canada, truly talented with natural charisma. We had some cool guests come through (pictured above left to right) Rich Kidd, Jay Rock, Mac, Charlie. Prior to Jay Rock a producer named Woody came and make a new song with Rich.
Rich uses Fruity Loops to produce, Woody was working in Ableton Live. They made a beat together with Fruity Loops sampling vocals and it turned out pretty incredible. Jay Rock came in and listening to a lot of beats then had to take off before we ended up recording. Trying to cram in a bunch of meetings and work in the short amount of time we have together.
Rich Kidd Day 5 at Truth Studios
Mixing, Mastering and Editing at Truth Studios today. I had a new mixtape come in that needed to be set up and evaluated before we locked in the project. Always need enough room in the tracks submitted so I can work on them and make my own adjustments.
Had to spend most of the day editing sound for the new in studio performance videos. New videos with Jean Deaux, Taylor Bennett, and Caleb James just to name a few. Director/Editor Kane Chattey shot an incredible portrait piece for us and I loved it so much I wanted him to edit our Live in studio performance videos. His touch was a major upgrade to our videos so I’m really excited about this batch.
Ended up staying awake working until 4:30 am, had to play a few games of FIFA in between rendering.
With everything going so well right now I wanted to share how thankful and grateful we are to continue working on music with so many talented musicians. Every day is a treat being able to work with music, musicians and producers who inspire us. We wanted to thank everyone for supporting us and continuing to work with us. We’re very excited for the remodel to be complete and get back to working on our regular schedule!!
We’re in the process of locking down the new gear, desk, acoustic treatment, couch, curtains… When this place is done it’s going to be gorgeous!!
Truth Studios Appreciation Day, Thank you all!!
Truth Studios Floor Remodel today!! Big project to take on in between studio days with Rich Kidd. Everything had to go right today and it nearly did, 98% of the way was smooth sailing until we put the doors back on and realized they wouldn’t close! Panicked a little bit as we weren’t able to get them shaved down before the guys left who installed the floor. Had to spend the rest of the day and most of the night putting the entire studio back together so we’d be ready for the session tomorrow.
I can’t express how necessary this was! The studio was in such bad shape, it was hard to notice being so close to it but once you see the problems and you live with them every day you have to make changes. The new floors look absolutely incredible and it’s just the beginning for the entire new look for the studio. Very happy with the way they turned out, waiting to get a real photo shoot done in here before we post pictures but we wanted to let you in on some behind the scenes.
Filming Taylor Bennett at Truth Studios recording a new video for our channel. We want to wait to let you know what song he did but he’s rapping for 3 straight minutes and it was really impressive. Crazy how much he reminds me of Chance (obviously) with them being brothers but everything from his look, his voice, his mannerisms all remind me of Chance. His style musically is very different, today was the first time I met him because I was busy for the session he had here the other night.
Taylor is a very young rapper from Chicago, as mentioned above he’s Chance The Rappers younger brother. Do some research is you’re looking for a new rapper to check out, I’d recommend him although I’m not familiar with much of his music so I need to do some research on my own!
Blu Recording Session Truth Studios today for a half day. He brought the studio to the studio traveling with his full set up to export files. We recorded seven new songs, every session he blows my mind. Hard to understand how he does it every single time. He comes in with all of his songs written, usually does the whole song in less than 4 takes and does his doubles and adlibs on the first take almost ever time. We did a few different tracks from various producers then he told me he got a new batch of beats from Exile and my eyes went wide. Nothing like Blu and Exile together, Below the Heavens and Give Me My Flowers While I Can Still Smell Them are two amazing albums they created together.
We made 4 new songs over Exile production which made my day. Blu is one of my favorite rappers to work with, over the past 6 years mainly working with rappers it gets very old to have the same style of recording session almost every day. Blu is always a breath of fresh air, he’s got great energy and he’s very focused on his work. He comes alone, we zone in together and we get work done. I love those sessions, it’s very important to be productive and feel like we’re accomplishing work to create something together. Not interested in being paid to sit in a room while people write as the “engineer” when no work is really getting done.
Blu Recording Session Truth Studios is always special to me. Today was amazing.
Polyester The Saint For The Player In You Album release July 8th, 2014. Pre-order available now on iTunes. A Majority of this album was produced by Polyester, 99% of it was recorded by him and I helped with a few minor verses here and there. He mixed and mastered the project himself. I’m always very impressed with all the work Polyester does with his albums. Such a multi-talented musician it’s incredible.
The entire For The Player In You album was created at Truth Studios. The release will primarily be digital, featuring a few artists but most production and vocals are all written by Polyester The Saint.
