Cam O’bi Album Session 7

RECORDING LOG:

Artist: Cam O’bi
Producer: Cam O’bi
Engineer: Nick Breton

RECAP:

Session number 7 with Cam dedicated to working on music for his debut album. We started this session off revising a mix for a song he’s giving to Chance The Rapper for his album. It was originally intended to be on Cam’s album but he decided the song didn’t feature enough of him as an artist and Chance is very attached to the record. Recently, Cam had Donnie Trumpet and JP Floyd play Trumpet/Trombone on the track and we’ve been mixing the horns in bit by bit in our recent sessions. We spent an hour or two on it today and Cam seems to be satisfied with the changes we’ve made. We both love the song and know it’s special. We feel really good about where it is from how far it’s come since first starting it almost a year ago. The song has gone transformed many times, I think we have over 50 sessions with revisions and changes. I’d say it’s between 98 and 99% complete we’re just making last changes to really dial it in. After today we both feel very confident that this is IT !

Once we printed the final version for today Cam went on to play around with the piano in the live room. I decided to take the cover off the piano and noticed the room really filled up when you remove the casing. I recently met my neighbor who’s an engineer and they have an extended upright in there house with no casing – I LOVED IT – so I decided I’d have to follow suit here and do the same. I shot some sweet pictures and another stop motion video while Cam played. After he found a new idea that he liked he took it over to his computer. I set up the Fantom as a midi controller, lately he’s been enjoying that over the CME 88 I normally set up. He spent most of the evening in his own world. I was filming and taking pictures but it didn’t progress into a skeleton so there wasn’t much for me to work with. He ended up leaving with a rough sketch of a drum pattern and a lot of chord options. Solid afternoon/evening session. We have more dates later this week, until next time folks !
