RECAP:

Day two out here with Towkio at Shangri-La and it already feels like home. Faces of the staff are more familiar, I know the lay of the land and everyone is working hard and happy to be there. They made a new song after I left at 2am and it was bangin when I walked in today. The guys had all made new beats for Towkio so they were going through them over the course of the afternoon. Towkio started 3 new songs while I was there with them today, one was incredibly catchy and everyone was really feeling it. While Towkio was working in the main room everyone was going through the different instruments making samples to take home.. Unreal amount of gear that these guys were able to sample. They went through playing all of the individual notes then went through chords and random ideas. Unfortunately they didn’t take advantage of recording the samples properly through great converters but it’s definitely better than nothing.

We hit a jackpot when Carter asked for other instruments they didn’t already have laid out… We found Rick Rubin’s original 808 drum machine that he made all of his early music with… Just holding it in my hand and feeling all the history gave me goose bumps.. All Beastie Boys, Run-DMC and so many others that had been created on that machine I was holding.

I stayed another 12 hours but eventually had to tap out because I’m starting to feel sick and I have work tomorrow at Truth. This was a truly incredible two days for me, I feel very lucky to have had the opportunity to be out there with some of my favorite living musicians on the planet.
