RECAP:

I had the pleasure of working with a talented artist (new to the studio) tonight. His name is Thomas DaVinci. He has an interesting style as a rapper and singer. We started the session talking about his history as an artist and his goals for his future projects. We have a lot of common friends since I’ve developed relationships with so many musicians and artists from Chicago. After talking for about twenty minutes we got into work mode and I set up a session with the file he brought in. He produced the track, it has some samples in it but overall has a classic 90’s vibe.

I set him up with the AKG 414 and set levels with him as he ran through a pass of the whole song. Once I had a solid level he started running takes of the song. We built a solid lead vocal track then Thomas started adding doubles and adlibs on the fly. We layered about five tracks to get the ideas down then spent time revising and organizing. We determined we’d need more time but ended the session with a solid reference and game plan to make the best of this new song. He’s very easy going and the session was smooth and efficient.. Perfect run!
