RECAP:

Quick 2 hour run with Thomas DaVinci, per usual with our sessions. Thomas arrived ready to roll but we spent 30 minutes catching up. He carries a lot on his shoulders so our sessions require time to catch each other up on life and music. Once we got through that part of the session I puled up the track and started a new Pro Tools session.

Recording details:

I set up the C800-G knowing Thomas would sound amazing recording through it. I’ve recently just used the C800-G into the Tube-Tech CL1B keeping the chain simple and sweet… The results have been incredible! I dialed in a saturated tone driving the input on the pre with the output down as to not cause clipping down stream. The way Thomas went through the song played into this technique perfectly because he had a run where he got more aggressive and dug into the pre. Took him about 5 takes to nail the entire song and that includes the fact that we cut it into 3 pieces. He was rehearsed and NAILED it today. Fantastic song.

Once the material was down I went to work on mixing the beat a bit. Got some solid dynamics out of an otherwise flat track but pushing the EQ pretty aggressively. I looked biggest problems in the track and addressed them before going into the mastering chain to print and wrap up.
