RECAP:

I was really impressed with Samson after Jakob brought him in for a Live at Truth Studios film session. He recorded two songs that night and they both stuck out after everyone left. I started digging into his music and went to go see him live at Hotel Cafe with my girlfriend about two weeks ago. Everything I see from him is fantastic, great creative ideas, merch/clothes, songs and energy as a person. I wanted to help him record the studio version of his new song Make Up and set up a day with Samson and Jakob to film us making the song.

Recording details:

I set up the Sony C800-G again because I don’t see another reason to use another mic now (joke but not really). I had Samson run through the song once so I could set levels and get dialed. I’m still blown away by how good this chain sounds. Samson ran through recording the song a handful of times and we got the magic! He threw some light doubles on in one take after then experimented with adlibs but we decided not to keep them. I loved recording with him because it was very much an old school style. We recorded full takes of the whole song and picked the best one. Didn’t go bar for bar recording, didn’t punch and tweak this and that. Simple and easy with amazing results. Loved it!!!
