Rejjie Snow, Cam O’bi, J Ivy Recording Session 13
RECORDING LOG:
Artist: Rejjie Snow, J Ivy
Producer: Cam O’bi
Engineer: Nick Breton
RECAP:
Our final day ! Well, not really but the last of the first 15 Rejjie booked. We decided to add some extra dates next week since we still have more work to do.. But today was one of the best sessions we’ve had working on this album. I spoke to my friend J Ivy early this week since we discussed how we wanted a spoken word poem on one of the songs. When J got to the studio Cam and Rejjie explained the concept for the song tentatively called “White Girl”. J made some notes then told us a story about how he ended up getting on the song Never Hold Me Down by Kanye West from Late Registration. Insane story, very amazing and inspiring.. Then he went on to tell us how he gave John Stevens his stage name John Legend because he was calling him John The Legend and Kanye said that was his new name.. Insane stories from some of our favorite musicians that we grew up loving.
J Recorded his poem in one take, he absolutely fucking killed it. It’s so visual, touching on every part of what Cam and Rejjie had described.. It could not have been more perfect.
We worked on 2 other songs, Cam added some vocals for hooks and adlibs while Rejjie added new verses. At the end of the session I pulled up all the reference songs and made an organized list for what we’d accomplished and what needed to happen to get across the finish line.
I know I’ve been writing these posts but I feel like I did a pretty poor job documenting making the album.. It’s been a truly great series of sessions. Cam is a fucking genius and Rejjie has great spirit and an awesome vocal tone. It’s been such a treat.
