RECAP:

If you know me and the music I listen to outside of the studio, you know how happy I am to finally record with The O My’s!! Maceo and Nick arrived early which gave us some time to game plan. The guys had HUGE sessions on their drives that we needed to transfer which took almost two hours! No problem with these guys though, they hopped right on the piano and guitar to start jamming. Ilsey arrived and we listened to some demo tracks currently in development. They landed on the first track and started writing to it in the live room on piano and guitar.

I know this may sound funny to other engineers but it’s such a luxury for me to work with musicians like this and not have a beat looping in Pro Tools for endless hours! They went from guitar to piano to both and writing acapella… The vibe was incredible. Hearing Maceo sing in person for the first time put the biggest smile on my face. Hands down one of my favorite voices in the world. They wrote a verse and hook which we then started to record.

I set up the U99 through the Great River then into the Bax and through the Burl then back into the lynx. Wanted a vocal sound with more vibe than pristine clarity to fit their style. Maceo cranked out a number of options that we then reviewed and organized. Once we dialed the ideas in we left that track alone and took a short break.

We pulled up the second track and Ilsey came up with an incredible melody. They cut some vocal ideas and Maceo wanted to take that home to write to tonight.

A perfect mellow session with these guys, great first day. One of my favorite sessions of the year for the simple fact that I got to meet these guys and hear them play/sing in person.
