RECAP:

We started the day off reviewing records we’ve worked on all week. Mick recorded a few more layers of harmonies and doubles where he felt necessary after reviewing the songs. Karriem Riggins came in to listen to the album and was very interested in being a part of the project. I set him up on the aux cable to play beats for Mick, every track he played was incredible in its own way. After pulling 5 or 6 Karriem played one and Mick lit up saying “That’s it, that’s the one.. Stop. Put that in a session and let’s go”. Clearly he was hit with inspiration saying after only listening one time that he already had half a chorus written.

I set up a session and looped the track for him to sit with for a few minutes. Within 20 minutes Mick had written both a verse and chorus for the track and we began recording. With no more than 5 takes on both sections he had the pieces down and we started adding layers for backgrounds.

Very inspiring day, Karriem’s music is very soulful and Mick’s lyrics are so intricate I was thrilled to record their collaboration !!

MICK JENKINS PROFILE:

Rapper from Alabama by way of Chicago with multiple mixtape releases and a debut album called “Waves”. Features and collaborations with artists like Kaytranada, Bad Bad Not Good, Chance The Rapper, Joey Bada$$, Noname Gypsy, Kirk Knight and many others.
