RECAP:

VERY excited to be back in the studio with Mick Jenkins.. Anyone who follows the blog knows he’s one of my favorite living rappers. He and Jon (manager) arrived on time and we got right to it ! I set up the first track (temporarily called “Spread Love”) which Mick absolutely fucking destroyed !! He recorded the entire track today, already having everything written and we finished it within an hour. I spent about thirty minutes cleaning it up since he recorded a number of vocal stacks. First track was a home run hit !

He recorded the hook for his second song (temporarily called “Plug”) then I bounced it for him to write to in headphones. While he was writing another artist named Britney started recording. We recorded 3 rough tracks that she already had written and left the fourth for another time.

Mick finished writing his verse to “Plug” so we knocked that out – Favorite verse of the day, possibly of his album… 2/2 on the tracks we did today he absolutely killed this one as well ! Once he did the verse we re-arranged the track to fit the new format and tried out some ideas. We made a second verse part which he wrote to and within about 30 minutes had it written. We knocked out the recording part fairly quickly and I started cleaning that one up too.

We took a lunch break, I ran over to Erewhon and sat outside (such a beautiful day).

Jon set up a meeting with Mick’s new booking agents for the last leg of the session.
