RECAP:

I’d been waiting for this session since the last time Mick was in town. His manager Jon let me know they’d be back for the show they have tomorrow night with Big Sean at The Palladium in Hollywood. We started off at the studio with Mick and Mr Carmack’s manager waiting on a few others to show. I thought Kali Uchis was planning to come in along with Mr Carmack but that switched to Earl Sweatshirt and Alex Wiley. Alex and Mr Carmack showed up slightly after the start of the session. I set up Mr Carmack to run from his converter to the Distressors and on into pro tools since that’s our best path for taking line input audio. Carmack played through some different tracks and Mick had an idea come to mind immediately from the first track. They laid it down but decided to move on to another track and come back to this one later. They landed on an open, slower boom-bap type beat and Mick started writing. He put together a 16 pretty quickly, rapping it for us a few different times as he made adjustments. Once he had it dialed in I set the mic up for him and we set levels. Once we had that done he started running takes on the verse and I playlisted along the way for safe keeping. Didn’t need it though, after about 3 takes he had a solid one and we left it at that for the night since it started to get late. Awesome session tonight, met a few really nice new people in the music world – can’t wait for the show tomorrow!!
