RECAP:

Special treat today! This session was suppose to be a rental but I had a feeling I’d end up engineering.. Dev was first to arrive but Kelsey came within a few minutes. They spent an hour and change listening to some songs that she’s been developing and coming up with ideas on the piano. When they were ready the first thing we did was mic the pedal on the upright and Dev played it as if it were a drum.. We got a really cool sound from it that felt like an actual kick drum. Once I got a loop together he started playing piano with Kelsey singing. After they worked out the arrangement of the song Dev laid a piano track. As soon as we got that down Kelsey hopped in the booth. We did a mic shoot out with the AKG 414 and the Manley Card Ref. I ended up going with the 414 and she was on her way running takes of the song. We recorded 4 or 5 passes of the song and spend the last few minutes comping a lead vocal.

Her voice is incredible, the song is GREAT and I am VERY happy with the results from our first session together.
