RECAP:

Last minute recording session with the Pro Era squad as they pass through LA on “Everybody’s Tour” with Logic. Joey hit me up this afternoon and I happened to have open time at the studio since I’ve been mixing this Nikki Jean project. We had about 20 people cycle through the session tonight and ended up making a serious banger!

Recording details:

Powers sent me the beat for tonight, I threw it in Pro Tools and set the tempo. Joey started writing and came up with the hook first. We cut the hook and everyone seemed slightly on the fence about going forward with the song. Joey kept going with it and wrote a monstrous first verse. Once he cut the verse everyone was behind finishing the song. He recorded the main lead, one double and one ad-lib track then I took a few minutes to dress it up.

As I was mixing the hook and first verse he wrote the second verse and we laid that down quickly in the same format as the first verse. These verses are fucking amazing, it’s incredible how quickly Joey can write and recite verses that don’t feel read or unsure in any way. Joey is one of the few people I’ve ever seen with such a skill set.

We re-cut the first verse after the second verse went in because Joey found a tone he preferred. It’s amazing how he records nearly every verse in one or two takes… I dressed up everything we recorded then Joey went back in to add a few little bits and pieces through the track. I did a final clean up quick-mix and we wrapped just after 2 am.

Another amazing spontaneous session, thankful Joey hit me and the studio was open. I love these guys, they’re all great people and I love making music with them.
