RECAP:

Today was awesome and unexpected! I had Estelle scheduled for 6 hours thinking it would be a rental similar to the session they booked a few weeks ago. Romèl was first to arrive at the studio and he went straight for the upright and started ripping it. Dominic and I just finished a meeting and were both surprised to hear him on the piano. Estelle arrived shortly after Romèl and Dominic had to head out for a meeting. I transfered files from her drive over to the computer and found out that the session was dedicated to creating her set for Essence Festival and that I was engineering. It was originally determined that it would be a rental so I was excited to help spend the day with some incredibly talented musicians. These guys play everything !!

We laid out the first set and started chopping tracks up to fit her time limit. The guys then went in to add all kinds of parts to the tracks and map out how they’d be playing live. I definitely felt spoiled to be in the studio watching it all come together. It was a little private live show in itself. I’m a huge fan of Estelle’s music, I love her voice and think she’s extremely gifted. She’s also incredibly nice so we all had a great time putting the set together.
