RECAP:

Today was the first recording session of 2016 and it was EPIC !! The session started with Domo Genesis playing me some of the records from his new album in the making (not sure what the title is). He played me an incredible track that Sha Money had produced which included an insane transition into the record I’d recorded with Cam O’bi last year. I really loved the track Sha produced and thought they both set the bar high for his album. I told him he’s currently one of my favorite living rappers as he is and I’m really looking forward to hearing his album in full once it’s finished. Shortly after we got the intro beat from Mike & Keys sent over and began recording the intro for his album. Domo had the verse section written so we jumped in and began recording takes of the verse he had. Once we had 5/6 takes down he really got into it and I’d say it took one or two more from that point to really nail the lead. We worked for another 30 minutes or so as he sorted out a singing part that followed the verse. Once we got that sorted he went down for a smoke break and I set up the next track. The next track we worked on already had a first verse and a chorus recorded which is always tricky.. I always recommend clients finish songs where they started them or start over because it’s very difficult to match the energy and sonic character in situations like this. Domo ran through the verse several times again before locking in and recording a very solid 2/3 extra takes in which he nailed them to be certain. I wasn’t convinced the energy was right because of how he’d recorded the first verse but after some finessing / light mixing it sounded decent enough to move on. The final piece we had to sort out was the loop / snipped that is going to become his outro. Vic played through some tracks they’d had previously recorded by a band and they landed on the section they wanted. I did a quick chop and gave that to Domo so he could plan it out for our next session. That concluded all of the work that was accomplished today, very productive short half day session. Hodgy beats passed by with another artist named Quin who I knew and hadn’t seen for quite some time.. It was nice to meet Hodgy, I’ve been hearing about him for years with all the OF talk. Tyler the Creator and Jasper also came by to hang out for a few hours. I don’t have enough time to write all the non stop jokes that took place for about 2 straight hours nor would it translate / do it justice by only having it in text but all of those guys together in one room is wild comedy. I don’t know how Kelly can keep her head on straight co-managing that entire crew but we had a ton of laughs today along side of making some contributions to an album I’m very excited about.

I believe in signs and todays was loud and clear, 2016 is going to be a very special year at Truth Studios. I’m going to do my best to document it with pictures and videos but I only have two hands and one brain so a lot is going to get past me. We’re in for a truly entertaining ride as the history of this studio continues to grow.
