RECAP:

Session number 8, day two this week working with Cam (or watching him work today). Cam and I started the session talking about music history, genre origin, who influenced who in the early days of music and left me with a lot of research to do ! After we talked for a short while I pulled up some tracks to send to Noname Gypsy since she needed some files from us. I helped Cam set up and basically left him to his devices after. He’s working on the track he started Monday night, he continued working on it at home Tuesday and came back with some chords today. He spent most of the session working on the drum pattern since it’s a complicated samba influenced swing. Listening to a lot of Brazilian music for references and talking about different chord progressions.

I learn a lot from Cam every time we have a session. He’s got a large pool of knowledge, loves to share information and teach – I try to do the same but I record/mix/master by ear with little repeat techniques. He’s been sitting over my shoulder to learn how I work and I try to show him as much as I can since he’s developed to be my most regular client over the past year. I always feel spoiled that I get to spend so much time in the studio with him creating and documenting him create. I wish I could make more videos but he works off his laptop and programs from there so it’s not very interesting to watch. He’s also incredibly meticulous so each part gets extreme scrutiny making sure it’s exactly as his vision is for it.
