RECAP:

Depending on how long you’ve been following the blog you’d know Cam and I have been doing extensive work together since the beginning of 2015. Recently he’s been telling me he wants to put everything he’s made for his album on hold and start fresh. I’ve helped him organize his current body of work in such a way that we know which records will likely be going on the album. We’ve been discussing his album a lot lately since we’ve had about a month straight together between Rejjie Snow, Mick/Noname/TheMind/Monte/Lon etc.. So I knew we were preparing for this. After everyone left LA we set up a few days a week to get in and plan for his new songs. Most of the day was spend discussing ideas, influences, direction and visual inspiration. After a few hours of talking, I took a lot of notes – Cam started working on a new Jazz guitar influenced song. Watching him create is very impressive for so many reasons. His focus, ability to take a tangent to explore an idea and come right back to where he left, his continuous pursuit of the right chords, the right tones, getting an idea flushed out – always adds up to something special. Tonight was no different ! After about 4 hours Cam had the skeleton of a new instrumental all mapped out and sequenced with two major 24 bar sections. We discussed where this track is going and it’s definitely going to be a ton of work but we’re both determined to do whatever it takes so long as we get it right !!
