RECAP:

One phone call can completely change your day. Always keep that on the back of your mind, for better or worse… Today happened to be for better. Talib Kweli called me and asked if the studio was open last minute so BJ could come in and record some features. I moved a few things around to make the schedule work because BJ is one of my all time favorites to record with. He’s so talented it’s awe inspiring to watch him work. He write two hooks, a part to blend in with the instrumental, a part that we made into a vocal sample and a bridge in less than 3 hours.. Not that time is a factor to judge quality in any regard but it is very impressive how fast he works. We’d start by putting the music track in the session, he’d listen for maybe 5 minutes or less then hop in the booth and start recoding. We got a lead down, one track no doubles of the same notes. He added three harmonies, no double tracks of any note (he never does) and it turned out perfect.. As it always does with him. I was lucky enough to catch some of it on film so when the songs come out I’ll post some footage.
