What a treat today was :). Lovely first session with Caroline Pennell and Jordan XL. Jordan was first to arrive, just a few minutes ahead of Caroline and he went straight to the piano and started playing. Once Caroline arrived we discussed the plan for todays session, I was happy to learn they came to cut final vocals on a number of songs. We’ve come a long way from being the studio where people go because it’s cheap and you can lay rough demos. As the studio continues to improve weekly, our clients are really appreciating the high-quality work coming out of here.

We started recording our first song on the piano, they wanted to do an acoustic version of one song. I set Caroline up with the U87 in the control room while Jordan played piano so she could sing along with him. One AKG 414 for the piano, just over his right shoulder facing the piano with an open lid. Fantastic results from the piano today!

Caroline went into the booth and started to lay vocals for the whole track. We went through each section of the song three times in case Jordan wanted to comp a take with all the recordings. She absolutely killed it! We were all really happy with the way the first song turned out, before adding any computer processing at all. I just dropped the UA EMT 140 on there with a little EQ work to it and we called that one done within an hour.

The second song was nice and easy as well. Jordan had the full track t0 put it in Pro Tools. Caroline went in the booth and started the same process we did for the first song.

Hilarious duo – these two cracked jokes every second possible. All credit for todays recording session goes to my hair (inside joke).
