Last minute late night session with Lido and Taylor ! Received an email around 5pm saying Lido needed a studio tonight from 9pm-2am and the schedule was blocked for me to mix but of course I’d rather take a session with Lido ! Anything to procrastinate, right?

He came in and set up his mac pro desktop as he runs Cuebase for his main DAW. Been having trouble with our 88 key CME lately and tonight was no exception. I think someone hit the USB port when it was plugged in because it’s not getting the power it needs. Anyway, I worked out the issues and got him dialed so he could get to work.

He told me he’s working on remixing the new Kanye West album Life of Pablo into about 15 minutes of music.. We talked about the album for a second – worst of them all for many reasons we both agreed on.. But he made an interesting comment – that it really shows Kanye in a raw element for where he is right now. Made me think, still hate the album but that was an interesting comment.

I sat in for the whole session because he’s one of the most impressive musicians I’ve ever seen. I love watching him play piano, he sang a little tonight as well. Most of the session was writing ideas, sequencing, arranging songs and getting the flow of this remix he’s working on. We finished work around 2, I asked him to play me some songs from his new album since he was telling me about it throughout the night.. I’ve heard them over the past year or so as he developed them but now that they’re finished it’s truly something else. He’s making a very strong body of work and I can’t wait for the album to come out !
