RECAP:

Had a session tonight with 21 Savage and Montell 2099 (thank you Rodney/Wheeler!). First time meeting 21 even though I’ve known his manager for quite some time. Montell was first to arrive, I set him up with our aux and he got right to work. He flipped through tracks he’s made and also worked on some that he had in development. 21 arrived a few hours later, TMZ paparazzi in tow.. First time that’s happened here at the studio.

Montell started playing a few of his beats and by the 4th one 21 had picked the one he wanted to work on. Montell put it on a flash drive for me and I cued it up for us and built a quick session layout. Within 20 minutes of listening to the track, 21 was ready to record. I set up the U87 for him and he wanted to sit while recording. He seemed to be writing everything as he went line by line through the track. We did a full 3-minute song in about 20 minutes. I have to admit it was impressive working with him, he came up with the lines very quickly and had some great one-liners.

Solid night, great group of people to connect with all around. Love working with new clients, meeting people from around the world is always fun. The ability to collaborate at this point in our lives is very impressive. Never thought I’d have a producer in the studio from New Zealand working with a rapper from Atlanta. Another day, another interesting session. Thank you Red Bull Sound Select, you guys are awesome !!
