RECAP:

Last minute session with Vic Mensa, Mickey Shiloh, and Papi Beatz ! Just after finishing dinner Cody (Vic’s Manager) called me saying the guys were in need of a room for the night. I ended up staying since I haven’t seen Vic for a few months and wanted to catch up with him. I was just talking about him as a part of the small list of rappers I even care to listen to at this point and was saying how last time we met I was surprised at the lyrical direction he decided to go in. As I mentioned it’s been a few months since our last session and our mutual friends kept me in the loop that Vic had gone into full court press mode making new music. I had no idea if he’d abandon the conscious intelligent lyrics for more simple and catchy commercial songs but it was in fact the complete opposite. I was as surprised as I was before when he pressed play on the new EP he’s putting together.. I’m very proud of him for what it’s worth, I believe he’s creating some great visual stories and I’ve always thought that was a strong suit for him.

Anyway.. About the session ! The guys just purchased a Juno which we immediately set up upon arrival. Vic played us the first three songs from the EP and wanted Mickey to record on the third so we got them all prepped and set up. Papi Beatz ran the session and I hung with them and shot some pictures while they worked. Love her voice, she was awesome and I’m glad we met! The rest of the night Vic and Papi Beatz messed around with the Juno and added some new synth parts.

Very awesome surprise last minute session, always great catching up with another one of my favorite artists. Feeling spoiled to be involved with every rap project I actually like with the few artists I still believe in.. 2016 has been so beautiful.
