Blu at Truth Studios

Another day with Blu at Truth Studios coming in knocking out song after song with non-stop bars. Three new songs today, one of which stood out as a very powerful song because of the lyrics. A bit political, philosophical, challenging the current status quo of life in 2015. Rare to hear such intelligence and insight over such a hard boop-bap beat. Amazing sample in the track, Blu killed 3 verses – as always in one or two takes he does the entire song then proceeds to record the doubles and adlibs in similar fashion.

Today we used the same mic chain I always use with Blu: our custom modded SP mic (after Telefunkin 251), Great River Pre Amp, Purple MC77 compressor into the Lynx 16. Sounded very full and crisp, love the clarity and body you get from this chain – very important for songs with a lot of lyrics and need for clean annunciation.

After our session I had to mix a new song for one of my favorite up and coming artists Chris Batson. Cover song, can’t say what it is just yet but when it comes out I’ll be posting it on the site. Beautiful song, very inspiring for me and he’s someone I really love to work with.
